Khiilak-cha are actually a wide range of subraces known more colloquially as “bugmen.” After Moonfall, much of the planet was doused in transformative Raystone radiation, which mutated much of the insect life on the planet. The common belief is that this makes the Khiilak-cha one of the youngest races, but they see things differently.
Moonfall (or as the Khiilak-cha call it, Awakening) merely changed the bodies and opened the minds of the Khiilak-cha, according to Khiilaki scholars. The tribes that now populate the globe were always there, but were simply not large enough or communicative enough for Humans to be aware of this fact.
Khiilaki religion consists of a worship of ancestors — the gods of the Khiilaki Pantheon are also the very first of each tribe to gain sentience, and each one embodies the soul of the tribe that it represents. Khiilak-cha tend only to pay homage to the patron ancestor-god of their tribe, but recognize each other tribe’s ancestor-god as powerful and to be respected.
Seven major Khiilak-cha tribes exist and each tribe is made up of a unique kind of Khiilaki, each descended from a different form of insect life. Each of these tribes (and subraces) are detailed on other pages.
The seven Khiilak-cha tribes are:
The freedom-loving, wasp-descended Khiilak-Phi, who roam deserts and islands in large, caste-based tribes.
The fire-worshiping, ant-descended Khiilak-Lo, who desire to spread their imperialistic underground nation like a wildfire.
The mantid Khiilak-Tolu, who wander the land solitarily, only occasionally meeting others of their kind.
The spider-descendant Khiilak-Ne, who produce a deadly toxin in their fangs and find perverse pleasure in using it.
The musical Khiilak-Ba, descendants of grasshoppers and crickets, who travel the world as bards and artists, looking for beauty.
The death-worshiping, swamp-dwelling, fly-descendant Khiilak-Ng whose tribal rituals involve necromancy and self mutilation.
The beautiful, moth-descended Khiilak-Mu who worship the stars and are gifted with prophetic dreams.
